A cultural development shaped around gathering, exchange, and the everyday life of the city, creating spaces where architecture becomes a setting for people, ideas, and shared experiences to unfold.

Avara brings exhibition, gathering, and public spaces together within a renewed urban setting in Barcelona. The project is conceived as an open cultural destination rather than a singular building, allowing different forms of activity to overlap throughout the day.

Light, circulation, and carefully framed public spaces establish a rhythm between the city and the interior, creating places that can adapt to exhibitions, performances, gatherings, and quieter moments of everyday use.

04 — STORY

An open cultural setting designed to connect architecture with the life of the city.

Avara began with the idea that cultural architecture should feel accessible before it even begins. Rather than creating a boundary between institution and city, the project introduces a sequence of public thresholds, courtyards, and gathering spaces that invite people inward. Movement through the building becomes part of the experience, with different programs gradually revealing themselves along the way.

Open courtyards, tactile materials, and shifting volumes give the project a civic presence without imposing on its surroundings.

The architecture combines warm stone, textured concrete, timber, and expansive glazing to create a material language that feels both contemporary and rooted in Barcelona. Large openings connect interior programs to public space, while changing ceiling heights and filtered daylight create distinct atmospheres throughout the building. The result is a flexible cultural environment designed to remain active beyond a single program or moment.
